Asbestos Task Force

The ACT Asbestos Task Force was formed to analyse the extent and impact of asbestos in the ACT, raise community awareness, and report to Government by 1 August 2005. The Task Force was chaired by former ACT Minister, Bill Wood, with representatives from the Master Builders Association, Housing Industry Association, Property Council, the Real Estate Institute of the ACT, Unions ACT and the ACTU, ACT government agencies, the ACT Insurance Authority and representatives of families affected by asbestos-related diseases and the broader community.

On 23 August 2005, the ACT Asbestos Task Force released a report containing recommendations on the long-term management of asbestos in the ACT. For a copy of the report click here.

An erratum to the Task Force report is also available here.

The ACT Government agreed or agreed-in-principle to all of the recommendations of the Task Force Report and has since implemented a new framework for managing asbestos in the ACT. To view the Government's response to the Report click here.
